UPDATED 12:40 p.m. 9/17/10

I hope it’s obvious by now that Civil Beat is committed to lively, insightful and truthful — have you seen our Fact Checks? — coverage of politics.

You can expect the same on Election Day. We’re gearing up for the big day Saturday and encourage you to follow the election right here. It’ll be a late night Saturday, but our newsroom will be hopping until the end. And we’ll be back Sunday to update the site as necessary through the day and prepare a fresh set of stories for Monday.

We’ve made the site free Friday and Saturday to help people make informed decisions when they cast their ballots. We’ve also given the leading candidates for governor and mayor the opportunity to have the last word, telling readers why they would make the best governor or mayor. Read their op-eds on the site today.

Come Saturday, you’ll be able to follow how election day is going on our live blog. We’ll have one running story with input from all the Civil Beat reporter-hosts spread across the city. They’ll be filing text, photos, video and more. You can contribute, too, by sharing your experience voting by sending e-mails to news@civilbeat.com or by sharing photos that we might put into the blog or into a slideshow. Our is a page where you can upload your photos. All you have to do is upload your shot, tag it so we can find it and make sure your settings allow us to use it. Please make sure that your contact information is current so we can give you the photo credit.

When the results first become available at 6 p.m. (if everything goes well at the polling places), we’ll have them up on our site quickly. We’ll have the complete results for every race, plus quick highlights on our home page. We’ll continue to update them throughout the night as soon as they’re available. So you can stick with us for your election news.

As each race is decided, you’ll find smart stories from our reporter-hosts.

And there’ll be many more to come in the following days as we explain why the election turned out the way it did and what the results mean.

UPDATE: In a new twist, our team will be equipped to live-stream from the field if there’s any juicy stuff to share. So make sure to bookmark this page and follow us on election day on and so you catch the news as it happens.
