In our next Future of Food event Civil Beat reporter, Thomas Heaton will have a sit-down with University of Hawaii’s Professor Susan E. Crow and banana grower, Gabe Sachter-Smith to discuss the future of agriculture in Hawai’i in the Era of Climate Change. The panel will explore how climate change impacts Hawaii’s agriculture and how both researchers and producers are attempting to address these challenges. The discussion will cover topics such as 鈥渃limate-smart鈥 and organic farming practices, cropping system diversity and climate change adaptation, carbon sequestration and its role in soil quality, farming system resilience, and the potential markets for such commodities.
The event will take place on Friday, October 25 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Civil Beat headquarters in Kaimuki.

The event will will take place on Thursday, October 17, 2024 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Dillingham Theater at Punahou School. The event will be hosted by Civil Beat Vice President of Operations and Philanthropy, Ben Nishimoto. Register to attend in-person or receive the recording.
