Ideas Section Intern
天美视频 is looking for an editorial intern interested in opinion writing to work on our highly popular Sunshine project.
“Let The Sunshine In” aims to hold government and civic leaders accountable, be a watchdog for transparency and make sure citizens are able to have a voice in important public issues.
We’re seeking a passionate writer with a strong voice who can combine solid research with persuasive writing to shine a light on topics that are currently up for public debate. We need a sharp thinker with an engaging style who truly cares about making a difference in public affairs.
The goal would be to produce two columns a month, more if you’re feeling passionate about something, with other short writing and editing assignments available as time permits.
Civil Beat strives to help early career journalists become thoughtful observers of civic life, identify problems and solutions that affect us all and develop excellent reporting writing skills necessary to produce high quality stories.
The semester-long Ideas Section intern program begins in January.
Compensation: $20 an hour, up to 19 hours per week.

Community Engagement Intern
天美视频 is looking for a community engagement intern that is interested in gaining experience in event management and social media strategy.
The ideal candidate has an interest in local issues and furthering Civil Beat’s mission of cultivating an informed body of 贬补飞补颈驶颈 citizens, and is comfortable working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
Requirements:
Social Media
- Familiarity with social media platforms, features, trends and best practices, including on Instagram, Facebook, Youtube and Reddit
- Strong written communication skills; can craft engaging social copy and respond to comments and DMs with professionalism
- Basic experience with posting on social, including Instagram carousels, Stories and Facebook posts
- Familiarity with photo/video editing platforms such as Canva
Events
- Exceptional project management, prioritization and planning skills, including ability to manage several initiatives/events at once
- High interpersonal and communication skills; the ability to establish and nurture close relationships with all event partners, panelists, and to practice routine follow up with involved parties
- Work closely with Events Manager to secure venues, panelists and catering for events
- Can work 2 to 3 events per month and provide your own transportation to and from events
This position is primarily in person with some flexibility for remote work. The candidate must be onsite on event days. Event times may vary, but we’ll work with the candidate’s schedule.
The 6-month intern program runs January through June, with potential to extend through end of year.
