Starting Monday, the ER will be closed for an unclear amount of time while HVAC work is completed.
The emergency department at Wahiawa General Hospital will be closed starting Monday while crews fix heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems, according a news release from the hospital.
鈥淲e remain committed to providing the highest level of care and safety possible for those we serve, said Brian Cunningham, CEO of Wahiawa General Hospital. “And we are confident that through our collective efforts, Emergency Department services will soon be restored to the communities of Central Oahu and the North Shore.鈥
The hospital has experienced a number of HVAC issues over the past several years and other challenges relating to the aging facility, the release says. This has led to the closure of the intensive care unit, and more recently the temporary closure of the inpatient unit.
Now, the HVAC-related systems which service the emergency department and other parts of the first floor of the hospital require work to mitigate any potential risk to patients and staff, the release says.
“Due to the nature and scope of the work that needs to be accomplished during this project, the most appropriate course of action is to vacate the ED space while performing the work,” the release says.
The timeline for the completion of the work is “unclear at this point,” the release says, but hospital officials believe the temporary closure will provide the best opportunity to complete the work in the shortest amount of time.
All other WGH departments will remain open and continue with current operations and plans at this time, the release says.
