The State Is Putting $100M Toward Major Maui Projects And Groups
Hawaii lawmakers allocated funding for axis deer mitigation, agriculture, school upgrades and more.
The Legislature is funneling almost $100 million to major projects and grants for Maui Nui, according to state Sen. Lynn DeCoite鈥檚 office.聽
In a news release Thursday, DeCoite detailed nearly three dozen projects and organizations that will receive funding across Maui, Molokai and Lanai in the next fiscal year, which starts July 1.
Some of the major projects that will receive funding include:
- Nearly $38 million for construction upgrades for facilities at the Kahului Airport, plus another $2.5 million to clean up the soil and do other improvements on the grounds.
- $20 million to expand the Kula Agricultural Park.
- Nearly $15 million for upgrades and repairs at Maui Memorial Medical Center, Kula Hospital and Lanai Community Hospital over the next two budget years.
- $2 million to upgrade the Molokai Irrigation System.
Almost $18 million will also be funneled down for big construction projects at several schools in Maui Nui, including $7 million for upgrades at Kula Elementary School, $8.5 million for schools on Molokai and $7.5 million for Lanai. Another $1.3 million is earmarked for a new athletic field at Hana High & Elementary School.聽
She also helped secure $6.17 million for axis deer mitigation statewide.
About $4 million is also on the way to several nonprofits, ranging from the Boys and Girls Club of Maui to Aloha House to Hale Makua Health Services.
