We won’t have far to go since the Kaimuki Public Library is in the same neighborhood as our office.
Civil Beat reporters and editors as well as members of our operations team have spread out across the islands to meet with communities and hear what is on their minds.
This week we don’t have to go far. Our pop-up newsroom will be Wednesday at the Kaimuki Public Library, which is in the same neighborhood as our actual newsroom.
We look forward to making the trek to the library at 1041 Koko Head Ave., where we will be stationed during business hours Wednesday, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Civil Beat staff expected to be in attendance so far are editors Patti Epler, Matthew Leonard and myself along with reporters Kirstin Downey, who covers the city for us, and Ben Angarone, who focuses on local and government affairs. Ben just finished reporting on the 2023 legislative session so he can answer questions you may have about that as well. Newsletter editor Courtney Teague and Eduardo Hern谩ndez, our major gifts manager, also will be there.
We’ve been holding these pop-ups since October in partnership with the Hawaii Public Library System. The process is very informal and involves as little or as much time as you want to give us. Basically our staff will be working at the library for the day and will be available to talk to anybody who shows up.
Bring story ideas and issues on your mind. We’re also happy to answer any questions you may have about Civil Beat and how we do our jobs.
Meanwhile, check out our Pop-Up Newsroom landing page to see videos of what people in the communities we鈥檝e visited have to say about their hometown.
