MPD is still investigating the threats, which were circulated on social media.

Maui police are investigating shooting threats made against Baldwin High School, Iao School and Kalama Intermediate that began circulating on social media on Sunday.

According to administrators’ letters to families, written messages referencing school shootings on Feb. 26 and 27 were found in bathrooms at the three schools. Maui Police Department opened an investigation.

MPD spokesperson Alana Pico said a 13-year-old female was arrested Wednesday afternoon on suspicion of terroristic threatening in the first degree for alleged threats against Kalama Intermediate. MPD’s investigation of suspects at Baldwin High School and Iao School continues, she added.

Pico added that all Maui campuses remained open on Wednesday but had increased police presence.

Separately, Maui police responded to a report that an intruder had entered Waena Intermediate and damaged school property. Police arrested the intruder and no students or staff were injured, according to a letter from Principal Jacquelyn McCandless.

In a letter to parents on Monday afternoon, complex area superintendent Desiree Sides emphasized that students involved in terroristic threats could face serious consequences, including dismissal, arrest and criminal charges.

“All threats to our schools and students are taken seriously and are investigated immediately and thoroughly,” Sides said in her letter.
