鈥楽top Asian Hate’ Rally And March At Hawaii State Capitol Saturday
It鈥檚 set for 10 a.m. and comes in the wake of the shootings in Atlanta.
A public march and rally to show support and solidarity with Asian American communities begins at 10 a.m. this Saturday in Honolulu.
鈥淭he organizers hope to create a safe space for grieving and healing, as well as to build support in Hawaii for several pieces of legislation at the state and federal level that would combat the rise of white nationalist extremism and hate crimes against minorities and women,鈥 according to a press release Friday. 鈥淭he organizers would also like to see racism and white supremacy declared a public health emergency in Hawaii.鈥
The 鈥淪top Asian Hate Rally and March鈥 is part of a national movement prompted by in Atlanta, Georgia, on March 16, where eight people including six Asian American women were killed.
Speakers at the Honolulu event, which will convene at the Father Damien statute at the Hawaii State Capitol, include state Sen. Stanley Chang and state Rep. Adrian Tam. The march and rally are scheduled to finish at 1 p.m.
