Hawaii Department of Land and Natural Resources spokesman Dan Dennison says the 65-year-old woman was airlifted to a hospital Tuesday morning. The agency says the shark was a 5-foot black tip reef shark.
The civil defense agency on the Big Island says the shark attacked happened off the coast near Anaehoomalu Bay. That’s near Waikoloa, a popular tourist area on the west side of the Big Island. Nearby beaches are closed until further notice.Dennison says officials expect to have more details later Tuesday.
