On Tuesday the U.S. Senate voted 57-41 to confirm Nani Coloretti of Hawaii to serve in the White House.
She will be the deputy director at the Office of Management and Budget.
Sen. Brian Schatz of Hawaii said in a press release that the Kapahulu native and Iolani School graduate is the highest-ranking Filipino American in the Biden administration.
鈥淭his is a proud moment for Hawaii,” said Schatz. “Nani will bring strong leadership experience and the ability to inspire the next generation of Filipino American leaders in Hawai鈥榠 and across the country. I am proud to call Nani a friend, and I look forward to continuing to work with her in her new role at OMB.”
Schatz’s Democratic colleague, Mazie Hirono, also voted “aye” in .
Coloretti previously served as senior vice president at the Urban Institute and as deputy secretary at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development during the Obama administration.
The Office of Management and Budget, according to Schatz’s office, is the largest office within the office of the president, “overseeing the implementation of the president鈥檚 vision across the Executive Branch. OMB also manages department and agency organization, the regulatory process, and ensures that funds appropriated by Congress are properly spent.”
