Less than a week after a U.S. Navy sailor open fired on civilian workers at Pearl Harbor, killing two and then himself, the only gunshot victim who survived has been released from the hospital.
Roger Nakamine has left The Queen鈥檚 Medical Center, the hospital announced Tuesday afternoon.

The 36-year-old Department of Defense employee was working as an apprentice at the shipyard when he was allegedly shot by Gabriel Antonio Romero, a 22-year-old from Texas. Nakamine was in “guarded” condition at first but was later stabilized.
Roldan Aguinaldo Agustin, 49, of Ewa Beach, and Vincent J. Kapoi Jr., 30, of Honolulu, died from their gunshot wounds.聽
Through a hospital spokesperson, Nakamine declined media interviews but released a statement over the weekend.
鈥淢y family and I would like to express our gratitude to the first responders and the expert medical staff at Queen鈥檚, as well as to all the friends and extended 驶ohana who have been reaching out to offer their support physically, emotionally and spiritually,” he said. “Our deepest condolences go out to the friends and families of Vincent Kapoi Jr. and Roldan Agustin. We ask that the media please respect our privacy as we all continue to grieve and heal.”
Navy officials are investigating the shooting, which they said happened within 23 seconds in an area where several thousand potential witnesses were present. They have released little further information and have not announced a possible motive.
