Online Quiz Estimates Risk For Opioid Dependence
The free questionnaire from the Hawaii Opioid Initiative is part of a state opioid awareness campaign.
A new published Monday by the Hawaii Opioid Initiative analyzes participants’ risk for dependence on opioids or narcotic prescription pain medications.Â
The yes or no questionnaire inquires about chronic pain, accidents and even medication effects on relationships.
The medications that are considered to be opioids or narcotic prescription pain medications are Oxycodone, Oxycontin, Hydrocodone, Vicodin, Norco, Buprenorphine, Fentanyl, Morphine and Codeine.
The website also offers resource guides about safe pain management, medication disposal and how to identify signs of dependence or withdrawal.
The Hawaii Opioid Initiative was launched in 2017.
A national database published recently showed more pain pills per capita are distributed on Maui and the Big Island than other islands.
Still, Hawaii has one of the lowest rates of overdose deaths involving opioids, according to the National Institute on Drug Abuse.
In 2017, Hawaii providers wrote 37 opioid prescriptions for every 100 people — one of the lowest rates in the nation.
