Maui Strong Fund Gets $4 Million Boost
The Oak Foundation’s donation increased the fund’s value to $146.6 million.
The Hawaii Community Foundation announced on Friday that its Maui Strong Fund received its biggest single donation yet: $4 million from the Oak Foundation.
The gift increased the Maui Strong Fund to $146.6 million.
“We are deeply grateful to Oak Foundation for their substantial contribution to support Maui’s people and places at this difficult time,” Micah Kane, CEO and president of Hawaii Community Foundation, said.
As of Oct. 10 , according to a press release. Grants have been made to provide baby and maternal care, children and family support, direct financial assistance, food, health care, immigrant services, shelter, mental health, workforce development and housing.
The grantees’ missions collectively fall within the foundation’s fundraising and disbursement disaster plan, which was developed in 2019.
“We believe in the power of collective action and appreciate HCF’s approach of working with community partners on the ground to address evolving needs, now and in the long-term as Maui recovers from this disaster,” said Millie Brobston, an Oak Foundation representative, in a press release.
The Oak Foundation, a grant-making nonprofit based in Geneva, focuses include the environment, child sexual abuse, housing and homelessness, international human rights, women’s issues and learning differences.
