Maui Resident Acquires Possible Mosquito-Borne Illness
Another mosquito-borne illness that could involve dengue, chikungunya or Zika has affected a Kahului resident on Maui.
A suspected case of a mosquito-borne illness on Maui was likely acquired by a local resident while traveling internationally.
The reports that the Hawaii Health Department sent letters to 80 residences in Kahului on Nov. 8, alerting them of the possibility.
Residents were urged to eliminate any standing water that could breed mosquitos on their properties.
The illness could involve dengue, chikungunya or Zika. Lab results from DOH鈥檚 Laboratory Division are expected to be published within the next few days.
Last year, there were two cases of dengue fever that were acquired by Maui residents when they were traveling outside of the islands.
