Maui Police To Use Drones To Enforce Stay-At-Home Order
The department says the drones are fitted with public announcement capabilities.
Maui police will use drones to remind people to stay at home during the statewide COVID-19 emergency proclamation.
The department announced that it will be using the drones equipped with public announcement capabilities to remind people to comply with the order. It also will use all-terrain vehicle patrols on beaches.
“Maui Police Department continues to educate, warn and reprimand, cite and even arrest members of the community and visitors for violating” the stay-at-home order, the department said.
Non-compliance with the order can result in a penalty of up to $5,000 in fines or up to one year in jail.
People are still able to leave their homes in a , however. The state of Hawaii says that residents can leave for various needs, including for health care, buying food and walking pets.
