Maui Police Release Latest List Of Missing People From Fires
The department only reports on individuals from the wildfires that are named in a filed missing persons report.
On Friday the Maui Police Department posted of the names of individuals who have been reported unaccounted for or missing — there are 10 total — following the Lahaina wildfire disaster Aug. 8.
For anyone who believes someone is still unaccounted for and their name is not included on what’s known as “the credible list of names,” call MPD at 808-244-6400 or email unaccounted@mpd.net to file a missing persons report.
Immediate family members — parents, siblings, offspring — of people who are believed still unaccounted for, who live on Maui and who want to provide a DNA sample to assist with the identification process, call 808-270-7771.
Total estimated fatalities are now 98, 93 people have been indented and the families notified, and one person has been ID’d but the family has not been located or notified.
“While we recognize the importance of public awareness, we also emphasize the sensitivity and privacy surrounding these cases,” MPD said . “Our priority is to protect the rights and dignity of those involved, including the unaccounted-for persons and their families. We request that everyone respect their privacy during this challenging time.”
