Maui Democrats Settle On 3 Candidates To Fill House Seat
Hawaii Gov. David Ige has until Aug. 16 to select a replacement for Lynn DeCoite.
The members of the Maui County Democratic Party鈥檚 House District 13 selection body have sent Gov. David Ige the names of three candidates for his consideration to fill a House vacancy.
It was created by the appointment of Lynn DeCoite to the Hawaii State Senate.
They are:
- Claire Kamalu Carroll of Hana, Maui, a boardmember for the H膩na Community Association, Project Hoomana, and Early Childhood Strategies Team 4, and the Soil and Water Conservation District of East Maui;
- Linda Clark of Kaupo, Maui, president of the Kaupo Community Association who served as a volunteer club leader for 4H; and
- Stacy Helm Crivello of Molokai, who is a former County Councilmember and community advocate.
The three names were chosen Saturday from a pool of five applicants. The governor now has until Aug. 16 to select the next representative for House District 13.
The seat represents Haiku, Hana, Kaupo, Kipahulu, Nahiku, Paia, Kahoolawe, Lanai, Molokai and Kahoolawe.
鈥淎ll three candidates are a leader in their unique communities, and each possesses a background of service and interests that will help them to be an effective advocate for the needs of District 13,鈥 Jonathan Starr, chair of the Democratic Party鈥檚 House District 13 Council, said in a press release.
