Maui County To Open 3 More Zones For Reentry In Lahaina

Displaced residents will have a two-day window next week to go back to what’s left of their homes.

Lahaina fire survivors can return to their properties on Kuuipo, Aa and Lokia streets on Monday and Tuesday, Maui County announced Thursday in a news release.

Zones 2C, 2D and 2E are the latest areas for residents to temporarily reenter the burn zone to look for keepsakes, closure or anything else since the fires destroyed most of Lahaina on Aug. 8.

The first reentry took place Monday on Kaniau Road in Zone 1C. Sixteen families went back for the day.

Reentry passes for the next three zones will be available from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday at both the Lahaina Civic Center and the front lawn of the Kalana O Maui county building in Wailuku.
