Maui County Residents Asked To Report Destruction From Massive Surf
The county wants to see if it might be able to get federal funding to repair any damage.
The Maui Emergency Management Agency is asking residents to report any property damage caused by the massive swell that earlier this month pummeled coastlines along Maui, Molokai and Lanai.
In mid-July, a historic south swell sent waves crashing over oceanfront property and water washing over roadways, leading to closures. County officials want residents to report any damage so it can assess the scope of the problems and see if the county is eligible to receive federal funding for repairs.
鈥淢aui County needs this information from our residents to make the best case possible for federal assistance to help pay for property and infrastructure damage caused by large surf and swells,鈥 said Mayor Michael Victorino in a news release.
