Topping 20%, Kauai has the leading Covid-19 positivity rate in the state, higher than the statewide positivity rate of just over 14%, according to the state’s .
Kauai County spokeswoman Kim Tamaoka said in an email that no additional coronavirus-related restrictions, such as a mask mandate, are anticipated at this time.
On Wednesday, the state Health Department reported an average of 48 new Covid-19 cases in the last seven days on Kauai, compared to 85 in Maui County, 93 on the Big Island and 495 on Oahu.
Statewide, there were 5,768 new Covid-19 cases reported over the course of the week, or an average of 722 cases daily.
These case counts do not account for unreported positive tests taken at home. The growing use of home tests is making it easer for people with symptoms to learn if they’re infected with the virus but it’s becoming more difficult for state health regulators to track the ebbs and flows of disease prevalence in a community at any given time.
