Man Accused In 1972 Waikiki Murder Pleads Not Guilty, Trial Set for February
Prosecutors says that DNA evidence links the 77-year-old to the unsolved murder of Nancy Anderson.
Tudor Chirila Jr., the accused man in the 1972 Waikiki murder of then 19-year-old Nancy Anderson, pleaded not guilty to charges of first and second degree murder during an arraignment in First Circuit Court Thursday morning.
Chirila appeared with public defender Christian Enright via video from Oahu Community Correctional Center and acknowledged that he understood the charges against him.
Judge Christine Kuriyama set Chirila’s bail at $1 million and his trial is scheduled to begin the week of Feb. 6, 2023.
The 77-year-old former Nevada deputy attorney general and onetime Nevada Supreme Court candidate is accused of stabbing Anderson more than 60 times in her Waikiki apartment 50 years ago.
The Associated Press previously reported that police had reopened the cold case multiple times.
Chirila was identified as a suspect based on DNA processed in 2019, arrested in September and extradited from Reno Dec. 2.
