The farm land was formerly some of the most productive sugar cane land in Hawaii, according to George Christensen, board chairman of the Kikiaola Land Co. In more recent decades the land stood fallow.

Christensen said in a statement that the board is looking froward to seeing the land become productive again in a new way for the benefit of the west Kauai community.
