, 47, of Waimea was arrested Tuesday afternoon for assaulting a police officer after he hurriedly fled a traffic stop, striking the officer with his car.
Police said the officer suffered non-life threatening injuries.
Brun was transported to Wilcox Hospital for a medical evaluation and then brought to the police cellblock, where he spent Tuesday night. Bail has not been set.
Police said the incident began when police pulled over Brun, who was driving a dark tinted silver Honda sedan, near the Lihue Post Office. When police approached Brun’s vehicle, he fled the scene.
Police followed Brun in a car chase to Kauai Beach Drive, where officers successfully stopped and detained him.
Brun is charged with first-degree assault of a law enforcement officer and resisting an order to stop a motor vehicle.
The investigation is ongoing.
Brun was elected to his second term on the Kauai council in 2018 after serving a two-year term in 2016. He is the chairman of the Parks and Recreation and Transportation committees.
