Add the name of one more Democrat to the growing tide of support for an impeachment inquiry on President Trump.
State Sen. Kai Kahele said in a press release Thursday that he stands with U.S. Sens. Brian Schatz and Rep. Ed Case in backing House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s action this week launching the probe.
“The President鈥檚 abuse of power has compromised the integrity of our democracy and put our national security and election security at risk,” said Kahele. “Now is the time for Congress to fulfill its constitutional duty to serve as a check and balance on this administration.”
Kahele, from Hilo on the Big Island, is running for the 2nd Congressional District seat currently held by Democrat Tulsi Gabbard. The seat represents mostly rural Oahu and all of the neighbor islands.
Gabbard, a candidate for the U.S. president who has not indicated whether she will run for another term on Congress, opposes the impeachment inquiry.
