Ige Names 3 To UH Board Of Regents
The 11-member board is tasked with overseeing the 10-campus University of Hawaii system.
Gov. David Ige on Tuesday appointed three candidates to the University of Hawaii Board of Regents, an 11-member panel tasked with overseeing the public university system.
Wayne Higaki, an administrator at the North Hawaii Community Hospital, will continue as one of the Big Island representatives on the board. He’s served on the board since 2015.
Two new appointees to the board include William Haning III and Diane Paloma.
Haning is the director of the Addiction Psychiatry/Addiction Medicine Training program as well as the deputy program director of the Psychiatric Residency program at UH’s John A. Burns School of Medicine. Haning is a graduate of Princeton University as well as an alumnus of the UH medical school.
Paloma is the CEO of the King Lunalilo Trust and Home. She previously served as a faculty member at the UH medical school and also sits on the UH foundation Board of Trustees.
Two current regents from Oahu, and , both term out in July.聽 They would be replaced by Paloma and Haning.
All three of the governor’s appointments for the board must win approval by a majority of the 25-member Senate.
