Honolulu’s Pier 2 COVID-19 Vaccination Center To Offer Walk-Ins
The Honolulu vaccine clinic run by Hawaii Pacific Health may continue to offer a walk-in option if there’s demand.
Beginning Tuesday, the Hawaii Pacific Health Pier 2 Vaccination Center in Honolulu will offer a two-hour window for walk-in appointments on a trial basis this week.
Pier 2 will be open for walk-ins daily from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. this week. Appointment slots will expand to accommodate people until 7 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday.
More than 10,000 appointments were still open for scheduling this week, HPH officials said.
The extended hours and walk-ins this week will continue in the future if the options are popular, spokeswoman Jocelyn Collado said.
Oahu residents ages 16 and older for the Pier 2 location online, but minors must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
The announcement comes a week after Hawaii lowered the age of eligibility to get the vaccine to 16, meeting President Joe Biden’s goal of broadening access.
Nearly 1.2 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered since December, and roughly 27% of the state’s residents are fully vaccinated.
Experts say the , including children, must be vaccinated to reach population immunity, or a point where it’s difficult for the virus to be transmitted among people who are vaccinated or those who have already had the disease.
