Honolulu is accepting preliminary applications for the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher program online this week.
Demand is so high that the city wants people to submit preliminary applications at this website by Friday, June 18 at 4:30 p.m.:
The city will then randomize the applications and conduct a lottery to choose 2,000 people to be on the program’s wait list.
Only people on the wait list will have the opportunity to receive the highly coveted housing subsidies.
“There is no first-come, first-served advantage, and only one application will be allowed per household,” the city’s press release says. “There is no guarantee for eligibility or housing assistance after applying.”
The program serves more than 3,800 households who rent from over 1,400 landlords. Questions can be sent to the city’s Section 8 Office at (808) 768-7096 or .
