Honolulu Mayor Blangiardi Tests Positive For Covid
The mayor is resting at home, his office said.
Honolulu Mayor Rick Blangiardi tested positive for Covid-19 on Wednesday morning, his office said.
“He is currently isolating and resting at home and is in good spirits despite experiencing mild symptoms related to the infection,” his office said in a statement.
The mayor鈥檚 office is working to notify people who have had close contact with the mayor in recent days.
“Blangiardi is fully vaccinated and boosted against the coronavirus and encourages everyone who is eligible to do so as well,” his office said. “The mayor is expected to remain out of the office until sometime after the Easter holiday.”
The mayor, 75, is working from home as needed while he isolates, according to Ian Scheuring, his deputy communications director.
Hawaii has lifted most statewide and county Covid restrictions, including the indoor mask mandate, as the number of cases has dropped. The state also has begun reporting Covid data on a weekly basis instead of daily.
Health officials said Wednesday that the weekly positive rate was 4.9%, and eight new Covid-related deaths were reported, raising the total to 1,390.
