Honolulu’s director of the Office of Housing Antony Krucky will take on a dual role by leading the city鈥檚 Department of Community Services after a high turnover within the last two months.
The Honolulu City Council unanimously approved Krucky鈥檚 appointment Wednesday to lead the department that administers human services, working and housing services and other programs.
Krucky is Mayor Rick Blangiardi鈥檚 second appointee after Director Sarah Allen resigned in September. She cited family medical reasons for her departure.聽
Following Allen鈥檚 resignation, deputy director Joy Barua became acting director, then resigned in late October.
Krucky, a former businessman, has said that the Department of Community services is a large department, which deploys 鈥渕uch of the federal funds that the city gets.鈥
According to his , Krucky has no experience in social services.
But he said with the Honolulu Star-Advertiser’s “Spotlight” program last month that his previous work experience will help him balance the departments.聽
鈥淚 have not just been in one position before,鈥 Krucky said. 鈥淚 have run a division for a company and worked on another company at the same time.”
“I do have some experience of doing this kind of juggling, but it鈥檚 a lot to do. But the mayor has asked me to do certain things and I serve at his request, and I鈥檓 glad to be doing it,” he added.
Krucky retired as president and CEO of Tissue Genesis Inc., which 鈥渄esigns and develops breakthrough technologies for use in regenerative medicine and cell therapy.鈥
He also served 20 years as president of HSM Concepts Inc., which 鈥渃onducted business in professional services and financial leasing.鈥 He also worked at IBM Corp. for 25 years and served on numerous advisory boards including, AIG Hawaii, Farmers Insurance Hawaii, Oceanic Time Warner Cable and Servo Pacific Inc.
He received his bachelor鈥檚 degree in criminology from the University of Maryland.
