Honolulu Handi-Van Driver Dies Of COVID-19
The city did not release any identifying information.
A Honolulu paratransit driver is one of the latest victims of the COVID-19 pandemic, according to the Honolulu Department of Transportation Services.
The city did not release the person’s name or age, nor their date of death.
“The individual who recently passed away because of COVID-19 is a victim of the pandemic and the City and County of Honolulu will respect the personal privacy interests of the victim’s family, friends, and loved ones,” DTS spokesman Travis Ota said via email.
The Hawaii Department of Health is charged with contract tracing, Ota said.
“The City understands that passengers who were in the vehicle operated by the operator have been contacted as part of and consistent with DOH’s contact tracing protocols,” Ota said.
“(Oahu Transit Services) continues to mitigate the spread of the virus with respect to passengers and operators by continuing with the mask mandate, distancing, and extended cleaning procedures. The City and OTS urge all residents and patrons of TheBus and TheHandiVan to get vaccinated, wear masks, stay home if they have symptoms of the virus and wash hands frequently.”聽
