Honolulu Council Chair’s Staffer Announces Bid For Windward Seat
Ikaika Anderson is set to finish his third and last council term next year, and Alan Kekoa Texeira hopes to succeed him.
Alan Kekoa Texeira, community director for Honolulu Council Chair Ikaika Anderson, announced on Tuesday that he is running to take over the seat his term-limited boss will vacate at the end of next year.
The Windward Oahu resident is vying to represent Council District 3 which covers areas of Ahuimanu, Heeia, Haiku, Kaneohe, Maunawili, Kailua, Olomana, Enchanted Lake and Waimanalo.
鈥淭hroughout the past eleven years, I have lived and breathed my role as a public servant, building strong relationships within our communities and enacting policy that benefits our residents first,” Texeira said in a statement. “Now, I am encouraged to run for office, in which I can continue giving back to the community that raised me.”
A Waimanalo resident, Texeira is a graduate of the University of Hawaii Manoa and Kailua High School, according to a news release. He has worked for Anderson for three years. Prior to that, he was the chief of staff for Senate Majority Leader Kalani English for eight years, the release said.
If elected, Texeira said his priorities will include improving city government operations; investing in solutions to waste disposal issues and promoting better stewardship of parks, city facilities and beaches.
鈥淢y heart is for Windward Oahu,” he said. “I see the issues that Windward residents face every day, and I understand firsthand the process to implement positive change.”
As for Anderson, he has stated he but hasn’t announced what his plans are after he leaves office.
