Here’s How Maui Police Chief Candidates Answered Exam Questions
Interviews for the chief position are set to begin Friday.
The Maui Police Commission is expected to select the Maui Police Department’s next police chief on Oct. 4.
Before that happens, the five finalists will need to go through a series of public hearings that begin Wednesday. The commission is expected to interview all five candidates on Friday.
For the first time, the finalists were required to take a written exam, which they completed on Monday. Ahead of hearings later this week, the commission posted the candidate’s written exam answers to its .
Candidates answered 10 questions about why they wanted to be the next police chief, as well as how they would create a work environment where employees can raise concerns, deal with a sexual harassment case in the department, retain and recruit officers, improve training — particularly for those on outer islands — and what goals they would set in a five-year plan.
