Facebook has chosen 25 local, independent journalists to write for its newsletter site . The list includes one writer from Hawaii, Ryan Kawailani Ozawa.

According to a recent , the journalists will be paid from a $5 million fund for multiyear deals.

“Facebook launched Bulletin in June as a standalone newsletter subscription service with free and paid articles and podcasts. It is the social media giant’s attempt to compete in the booming email newsletter trend led by companies like Substack,” Reuters reported.

Ozawa will publish “Hawaii Bulletin,” which will focus on island innovation.

According to , “He will highlight Hawaii-based science, technology, startups and entrepreneurs, and feature local leaders, creators, educators, and more, as well as indigenous knowledge and place-based initiatives.”

Ozawa said, “Bulletin combines the undeniable connective tissue that Facebook already provides for countless communities with something as simple and accessible as email.”

According to Reuters, the journalists for Bulletin — the full list — were chosen in partnership with the International Center for Journalists and the National Association of Hispanic Journalists.
