Hawaii Senate Confirms Leo Asuncion To Public Utilities Commission
Gov. David Ige’s appointee will serve a six-year term on the regulatory agency.
Leodoloff Asuncion Jr. was approved Thursday by the Hawaii Senate to serve on the state Public Utilities Commission.
Asuncion, who was first named to the PUC by Gov. David Ige in 2019, will continue his work as a commissioner until June 2026.
The other commissioners are James Griffin, the PUC chair, and Jennifer Potter, both Ige appointees.
The PUC’s main job is “to protect the public interest” by overseeing and regulating public utilities “to ensure that they provide reliable service at just and reasonable rates,” .
The utilities provide electricity, gas, telecommunications, private water and sewage and motor and water carrier transportation services for the state.
