Hawaii Offers Social Distancing Tips In Multiple Languages
English is not the first tongue for many residents in the islands.
The Hawaii COVID-19 Joint Information Center on Monday said it is making available free, downloadable posters and infographics to advise non-English speakers on how to practice good social distancing.
State agencies are being encouraged to post the graphics on departmental websites and social media platforms, and for media organizations to use “in print, on-air, and on their various digital platforms,” according to a press release.
The languages and dialects are Chuukese, Hawaiian, Ilocano, Japanese, Korean, Marshallese, Samoan, Simplified Chinese, Tagalog, Traditional Chinese, Spanish and Vietnamese.
Infographics sized for Facebook, Instagram and Twitter are available as well but only in English, Hawaiian and Japanese.
“In a multi-cultural location like Hawaii, where English is not the first language for many people, it鈥檚 important to try to communicate the physical distancing message,” the info center explains.
