Hawaii Democrats Select Lobbyist as New Party Chair
Tyler Dos Santos-Tam succeeds Kate Stanley for a new two-year term.
Members of the Democratic Party of Hawaii said Wednesday that they have elected Tyler Dos Santos-Tam to be state party chair from 2020-2022.
He succeeds interim chair Kate Stanley.
“I am looking forward to leading the party through an exciting election season, including a critical presidential election,” said Dos Santos-Tam in a press release. “It is more important than ever that we come together as a party to move our country and our state in the right direction. Mahalo to the members for giving me this opportunity to support the party and our candidates.”
Dos Santos-Tam, 32, of Kakaako, recently finished his term as president of the Young Democrats of Hawaii in May. He is also the coordinator for Hawaii for Biden.
Dos Santos-Tam is the former executive director for the Hawaii Construction Alliance, which lobbies on behalf of 15,000 local building-sector workers from several unions.
He is also active as a lobbyist for the Hawaii Public Health Institute, the Hawaii Regional Council of Carpenters and the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers, the Hawaii State Ethics Commission.
He ran unsuccessfully for the Honolulu City Council in 2018 and was a spokesman for Mufi Hannemann’s unsuccessful 2012 race for Congress.
