Green Selects Amemiya To Head Sports Task Force
He is the former executive director of the Hawaii High School Athletic Association.
Banking executive Keith Amemiya was recently appointed to lead Gov. Josh Green鈥檚 Sports Task Force, which is housed under the Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism.
Amemiya was the executive director of the Hawaii High School Athletic Association and has previously served on the Honolulu Police Commission, the Hawaii Board of Education and Aloha Stadium Authority Board.
He is currently the senior vice president of community relations at Central Pacific Bank and president of the Downtown Athletic Club of Hawaii.
“I look forward to working with Keith as he leads efforts to develop sports strategies that provide opportunities for the state,鈥 DBEDT Director Jimmy Tokioka said in a press release Monday. “The Governor鈥檚 Sports Task Force will assist with identifying areas within the sports segment that will have positive impacts to our communities and economy.鈥
According to DBEDT, in response to the Maui wildfires Amemiya has been spearheading a fundraising campaign to assist the 450 Lahainaluna High School student athletes and 50 coaches displaced by the Lahaina fire. Funds will be used to replace sports equipment and supplies.
Amemiya ran unsuccessfully for Honolulu mayor in 2020 and Hawaii lieutenant governor in 2022.
