Gov. Green Fills Vacancy On Water Resource Commission
V.R. Hinano Rodrigues will serve in an interim capacity until confirmed by the Hawaii State Senate.
A person described as having more than two decades of service in cultural preservation and community engagement has been appointed to the state Commission on Water Resource Management.
The selection of V.R. Hinano Rodrigues on Tuesday was made by Gov. Josh Green.
“All three candidates nominated for this role were incredible individuals, each with unique qualifications and deep commitments to serving our communities,鈥 Green said in a press release. 鈥淗inano stood out as best suited for the commission due to his extensive experience and understanding of Hawaii鈥檚 cultural and environmental landscape.”
Green said the appointment of Rodrigues “is essential for ensuring the sustainable management of our most precious resource 鈥 water 鈥 and requires a leader who can honor the balance between housing needs and cultural preservation.”
According to the Green administration, Rodrigues is a native of Olowalu on Maui and “is well-respected” for leading multidisciplinary teams and championing initiatives for the benefit of the state鈥檚 natural resources.
Rodrigues served as a History and Culture Branch chief at the Department of Land and Natural Resources.
Green recently appointed Ciara Kahahane as first deputy of the Commission on Water Resource Management.
