Meredith Artley will take over the Hawaii Public Radio station in August.
Meredith Artley has been picked by the Hawaii Pubic Radio board of directors to take over as president and CEO.
Artley will replace Jose Fajardo, the president and general manager of the station since May 2016. Fajardo and the station announced in January they would search for a new chief executive.
Fajardo has Lou Gehrig鈥檚 disease, a neurodegenerative disease with no known cure. He has been open about his struggles with his illness, posting regularly on social media as he was going through treatment.
HPR Board Chair Kathryn Matayoshi announced Artley’s hire on Tuesday. Her first day will be Aug. 12, Matayoshi said.
Artley has been a member of Civil Beat’s board of directors but will resign from that position, she said Tuesday.
Artley was editor-in-chief and senior vice president of CNN Digital Worldwide before moving to the Big Island with her husband, Civil Beat columnist Naka Nathaniel, in 2022.
Most recently she has been interim executive director of the Doris Duke Foundation’s Shangri La Museum in Honolulu. She’s also worked at The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times and the International Herald Tribune in Paris.
