Feds Indict Former Union Official
Former stevedores union treasurer embezzled money, indictment alleges.
Federal prosecutors have indicted the secretary-treasurer of a union for stevedores for embezzlement, alleging the former union official submitted false work records totaling $1,575 in April 2014.
The indictment, filed in federal District Court in Hawaii, alleges that Charles Kimo Brown inflated wage vouchers submitted to the Hawaii Longshore Division to compensate him for work he did in his position as a union officer.
The union was supposed to compensate Brown for work that he missed out on because he was working for the union. The indictment alleges Brown consistently inflated vouchers submitted to the union.
The Longshore Division where Brown worked is an autonomous division of the International Longshore and Warehouse Union Local 142 and represented approximately 1,000 members employed as stevedores in the longshore industry throughout Hawaii.
