Ex-Kamehameha Schools Employee Accused In $360,000 Theft
The money was stolen from the school’s Keaau campus.
Hawaii island police are investigating after a former Kamehameha Schools employee was accused of stealing $360,000 from the Keaau campus.
Kamehameha Schools Head of School M. K膩healani Nae驶ole-Wong sent a letter to families saying the alleged theft was uncovered during an internal investigation. The school did not name the employee or say how the funds were taken but called their actions a 鈥渂etrayal.鈥�
鈥淭his was someone known to us, whom we educated and entrusted to serve alongside us,鈥� Nae驶ole-Wong wrote in her letter to parents.
鈥淚 am also working closely with our CEO and executive team to scrutinize our systems, practices, and policies so that we can shore them up and ensure that this will never occur again.鈥�
Police confirmed the suspect is a man who had had several positions at the school over the years.
Most recently, the employee was a teacher. He resigned earlier this year.
Authorities also said evidence in the case is still being reviewed and an arrest is pending.
In a statement released Friday afternoon, Kamehameha Schools additionally said it will seek 鈥渁ppropriate legal action鈥� in a bid to retrieve the funds.
