Contractor Pleads Guilty In Schofield Bribery Case
John Winslett admitted taking more than $700,000 in kickbacks.
A government contractor pleaded guilty to federal conspiracy charges in connection with a bribery case involving range supervisors at Schofield Barracks.
John Winslett, 65, of Rhode Island, admitted to bribing government officials to steer federal contracts worth about $19 million to his employer favor and accepting about $723,000 in kickbacks.
Winslett paid more than $100,000 in bribes, which included cash, cars and guns, to Schofield supervisors, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney鈥檚 Office in Hawaii.
He also arranged for Franklin Raby, one of the supervisors, to get a job at his company after Raby retired from the U.S. Department of Defense.
Raby pleaded guilty to receiving bribes. Another supervisor, Victor Garo, has been charged and is scheduled for a change-of-plea hearing in October.
Winslett is scheduled to be sentenced on Jan. 16 before U.S. District Court Judge J. Michael Seabright.
