As ballots hit mailboxes across the state, we’re wrapping up our elections-themed pop-up newsrooms for this general election season on Wednesday with a discussion with OHA At-Large Trustee Kelii Akina. I’ll moderate the discussion.
Lei Ahu Isa, who is challenging Akina for the at-large seat, declined to participate. We hope she reconsiders.
The pop-up is set to begin at 5 p.m. at Civil Beat’s office, 3650 Waialae Ave. It will run until 6:30 p.m.
The nine trustees oversee assets worth nearly $600 million in addition to a real estate portfolio including lands in Iwilei and Kakaako. OHA is currently negotiating with other state agencies to get an increase in payments from ceded land revenues after years of being shortchanged.
Recently, the office has broached the idea of taking over management of Mauna Ala, the burial place of many of Hawaii’s monarchs.
