Hawaii island police arrested a 13-year-old boy from Pahoa for allegedly threatening to bring a shotgun to school.
The boy was taken into custody shortly after midnight Friday after he made threatening statements in an Instagram chat group with his friends, police said in a .
According to police, the boy was released to his parents after about four and a half hours in custody.
During the investigation, which is ongoing, officers from the Area 1 Juvenile aid section recovered a broken BB gun that resembled a shotgun, police said.
Authorities did not provide further details about the boy’s identity because he is a minor.
“Hawai’i Island police wish to inform the public that there is no imminent or pending threat to any Hawai’i Island public, private, or charter school,” police said.
