U.S. drivers have never paid so much for gasoline, according to news reports.

The price for a gallon of regular unleaded gas on Tuesday stood at $4.17, . The previous record was $4.11 in July 2008.

In Hawaii, a gallon of regular averaged $4.71, . Just a year ago the price was $3.49.

The average price in Honolulu was $4.61, $4.75 in Hilo, $4.87 in Kahului and Wailuku, and $4.94 in Lihue.

The record-high costs are attributed in part to the Russian war in Ukraine, now nearing its third week.

On Tuesday, President Biden on Russian oil and gas imports.

“The decision today is not without cost here at home,” Biden said.
