$365M Released For School, Airport, Hospital Infrastructure
The capital improvement projects were approved and appropriated by the Hawaii Legislature.
Gov. David Ige on Tuesday last month of $365,283,752 for capital improvement projects to be administered by various state departments.
鈥淲e鈥檙e excited about the prospect of building back a better, more sustainable Hawaii,” the governor said in a press release.
Some of the funding will go toward constructing new residential lots for Department of Hawaiian Home Lands homestead leases, “enhancing existing facilities” like Wahiawa General Hospital and Kahului Airport, and improving public schools by building additional classrooms and sports fields statewide.
The CIP list was approved and appropriated by the Hawaii Legislature earlier this year.
Among the projects are these:
- $19,720,000 for various projects in Department of Public Safety facilities
- $25,000,000 to the Dwelling Unit Revolving Fund to finance construction of affordable housing projects statewide, and $50,000,000 to finance construction of affordable housing projects in neighbor island counties
- $15,000,000 for major renovations for technology programs at Honolulu Community College
- $7,000,000 to finance design and construction for a girls’ athletic locker room at Kaimuki High School
- $114,000,000 to finance design and construction of Mokapu Elementary School campus improvements including replacement facilities
- $350,000 for construction of infrastructural improvements and installation of hospital equipment for Wahiawa General Hospital nurses’ call system, pharmacy and acute care and intensive care unit patient beds
- $1,800,000 to finance the additional construction costs to improve the inbound baggage handling system at Kahului Airport
