Visitors Arrested On Oahu For Violating Quarantine
Updated: Honolulu police also arrested a couple from California.
Two visitors staying in Waikiki were arrested Tuesday morning for violating the state’s mandatory 14-day quarantine for all travelers, according to the COVID-19 Joint Information Center.
Kimberly Tien and Edwin Htun were staying at the where they were supposed to be quarantined, according to a press release. A manager at the hotel reported Tien and Htun after receiving complaints that two were seen outside of the hotel.
The state Attorney General’s office found that the travelers repeatedly left their hotel room since arriving on April 15, the press release said.
Police booked Tien, who is from Las Vegas, and Htun, an Australian citizen, and took them back to their hotel to finish their quarantine, which would end on April 29.
Oversight of the quarantines has so far relied on an honor system for residents and random calls to hotel rooms for tourists.
The state Department of Transportation announced Friday that there would be to make sure residents and visitors comply with the quarantine.
The Honolulu Police Department announced Tuesday afternoon that it arrested a male and female from California for violating the 14-day quarantine.
The two were arrested in Aala Park, police said. They arrived one week ago.
Their bail has been set at $250 each.
