1 Student Hospitalized, Another Detained After Apparent School Stabbing
The incident occurred during an argument between the students at Makaha Elementary school, according to a letter from the principal.
A Makaha Elementary student was taken into policy custody on Monday afternoon after allegedly stabbing an 11-year-old boy who was taken to the hospital in serious condition.
According to a letter sent to Makaha Elementary families, a student allegedly used a pair of scissors from an art activity to stab another student during an argument. The Honolulu Police Department received a call about an aggravated assault at the school at 1:55 p.m.
HPD and emergency services arrived on campus around 2 p.m., according to the letter from principal Kenneth Agcaoili. The injured student was taken to the hospital due to an apparent stab wound to his upper body.

Makaha Elementary will be open Tuesday with no changes to its schedule, although staff and students will have access to counselors and mental health support, Agcaoili said in his letter to families. He urged parents to monitor children’s behaviors in the coming weeks.
“Our priority in the coming days will be to support those who have been impacted and our school
community,” Agcaoili wrote.
