Living as we are in the Age of Technology, as a self-described Facebook addict, there are life lessons that can be learned from this social networking site.

Number one. 鈥淒on鈥檛 judge a person by their profile information.鈥 You know that saying, 鈥淒on鈥檛 judge a book by its cover?鈥 The same thing applies in the virtual world. The girl who puts The Notebook or, dare I say it, Twilight, as her favorite movie could be an avid sports fan who knows football statistics better than your average local sportscasters.

Number two. Value your friendships. You know that one friend with 2000 people on their friends list. You might even be this person! But when you post an update about your life, are all 2000 people going to 鈥渓ike鈥 or comment on your status? Probably not. And yet, there is that special group of friends, the ones that will laugh with you if you share a hilarious picture, ask if you鈥檙e okay if you write a depressing status, or simply like a quote that you found uplifting, witty, or interesting. It is these people that will help you through life. The people that will remain a part of your life even after today.

Number three. The delete button doesn鈥檛 really exist. I try to live without regrets. When I get really mad, I log on to Facebook and just rant about my problems. Later, I may have second thoughts and press that little x in the top right-hand corner and make my harsh words disappear. Unfortunately, in the virtual world and in real life memories cannot be deleted. I guarantee you, once you post something, there will always be that one person who sees it. If, while really angry, you post something negative about a friend, that one person will tell your cousin鈥檚 friend, who tells your cousin, who ends up telling your parents, who tells your friend鈥檚 parents, who tells your friend, and you end up losing a friend. Just like life, you can鈥檛 take back anything. Update your statuses, and live, without regrets.

So, don鈥檛 judge a person by their profile information, value your real friends list, and live without regrets. Good job, class of 2011, as of this night, you鈥檙e no longer high school students. You are the students of the real world, taking lessons from life鈥 and facebook. Congratulations!
