We want to hear reflections on Lahaina from those who cherished it most. Here’s how to submit yours.
If you could write a letter to Lahaina, what would you say?
We want to know what’s on your hearts as we approach the one-year anniversary of the Aug. 8 fires that leveled much of the historic town, beloved by locals and visitors far and wide.
Though empty lots sit where tight-knit neighborhoods, vibrant gathering places and bustling businesses once stood, the memories remain. We continue to grieve the lives lost that day as we begin to envision how to best honor the neighbors we lost and what the Lahaina of tomorrow could look like.
So with that in mind, we’re inviting those who held Lahaina dear to write an open letter to the town. We’re planning to post these on , and right here on the website around the anniversary of the fires.
You can talk about your heartaches and hopes, your fears and your dreams — anything that comes to mind as you reflect on the Lahaina of past, present and future. All we ask is that you share with an open heart.
Mahalo in advance for your vulnerability, bravery and honesty. We look forward to sharing these letters and honoring Lahaina together in the weeks ahead.
